Expand on your impressions on working collaboratively on planning a unit of work.

  1. I think collaborative work is good when all the team members do their best. It is enriching as well as productive and the result can be better and more complete than the one a person could do on their own. However, if any member of the work team is unproductive, she/he becomes a real burden for the rest, there is a lot of waste of time and energy keeping an eye on their work or even having to do their part. The result in such case might be very unfair since, regardless of each person's efforts and investment, they will all enjoy the same benefits. My experience of collaborative planning has been very enriching and interesting as it gives room to different points of view, the combination and complementation of each team member's knowledge and abilities. Besides, you can find help and support in your classmate!

    1. It is true that sometimes group work can be unfair for hard-working people. What strategy can we use to motivate ss and make it a little bit fairer?

  2. I found collaborative planning enriching because there is constant exchange of ideas and experiences and it's an opportunity to learn from my peers. Our own experiences as teachers and also as students allow us to come up with different ideas, and working in pairs allows us to discuss the pros and cons of each of them. Apart from that, collaborative planning fosters communication and compromise with your peers and your work. I think it's important for us to experience what we want our students to do when we plan activities in which they have to work collaboratively.

    1. Exactly! It is incoherent not to do what we ask ss to do themselves. I think we should set an example as teachers in many senses.

  3. I think collaborative planning is great. For me, two heads are very often better than one. Both as a student and as a teacher, I've learnt a lot from other people's knowledge. It is very enriching because we can exchange opinions. Also, sometimes a member of the group comes up with an idea and we can enhance it together. It is also good to work in pairs because it is something that we have had to or may have to do as teachers too with our colleagues. Planning collaboratively allows us to share our ideas and also to receive feedback on them from the other members, which will enable us to modify them and improve on them. It is a good practice of compromise, in the sense that sometimes we have to discard some ideas that we may like and other times accept ideas that we may not like that much.

  4. Right. There are other skills involved as well such as negotiating, agreeing, disagreeing, justifying your point of view, persuading, building team work , which nowadays is necessary for jobs in general.

  5. I found collaborative planning enriching, challenging and helpful. Enriching because I find it interesting to listen to what my collegues think and learn from their experience. Challenging because i do not always agree with my collegues views and, as we are doing it together, we have to try and reach and agreement. And ifind collaborative planning helpful because it is always great to have someone else to bounce ideas with someone and see what they think and how we can make them better together.

  6. I've always had a great experience when planning a unit of work collaboratively. I really enjoyed it when I was doing my practice lessons and I'm enjoying it now. I think that you can always learn a lot from sharing your ideas with someone else because they may give you useful feedback. In addition, hearing other ideas is also enriching, especially when it's something that you would have never thought of doing.
However, I believe that it can also be a negative experience if the person you have to work with does not share your same view of education.
Luckily, I have only had positive experiences so far!

  7. Collaborative planning has always been a very fruitful experience, I really appreciate the exchange of ideas and points of view that takes place while doing so. It also implies negotiating and decision making which can sometimes be quite challenging when working with a peer but it has never been a negative experience to me. On the contrary, I consider that those challenges help me become a better teacher since I find that collaborative work is a real asset.
