What strategy have you learnt to help you improve one aspect of classroom management? How would you rate the lesson from 1- (not really good) to 5- (excellent) Justify your rating.
Actually, I've never liked marking my students, let alone my teachers! Though, if you ask me to do it, I'll rate our 3rd lesson with four points. I loved Lino sticky notes! I didn't know it. I also liked Mentimeter as another possible tool for sharing short comments. I think it's good to use devices which display different aesthetics and functions not only for the students to explore diverse tools but also for them to keep renewed expectations of our lessons and the material we might be using when we meet. I think watching videos with varied seating arrangements was quite different from seeing their graphic representations on the page. Through this audiovisual material we could perceive what was really going on in those scenarios. As regards the use of the book, it guided me to reflect on classroom management, social contracts and teachers' appearance, presence, audibility, clarity and behaviour as key elements to bear in mind when we deliver a class. I was at a loss when it required an "A&D chart" whose sample was "on page 186" because I was not able to decode what "A&D" stood for. However, this was solved by the teacher's clarification and the solving of the exercise in pairs.
I'd rate the lesson with a 5. I loved working in pairs and groups (it was the first time I worked like that during a Zoom session). As regards the activities related to classroom management, I liked the fact that they provided different ways (some better than others) in which teachers may act in certain situations. I found the videos very interesting because we could see examples of the different seating arrangements (I missed the lesson in which the different seating arrangements were explained so watching this was very helpful for me). I didn't know Lino and Mentimeter existed and I loved both of these tools.
I'd also rate this lesson with a 5. I like the way you organize the lessons and combine different tools for the activities because it is engaging for us as students and we also get to know how they work, so then we can start using them in our lessons too. I also like that we experience different student groupings because we work in pairs, then all together, and we also give opinions or answer questions individually. As regards the strategies learnt, I think that thinking of the advantages and disadvantages of TTT and STT is a very good strategy so as to organize the lesson and also to bear in mind the objectives of it.
In order to improve my classroom management I have learnt how important it is to consider the time that I spend talking in class as a teacher and the time I assign to students for them to be active participants. Having that in mind while planning and in the class might be a good way of improving my classroom management. In my opinion the lesson was really interesting and engaging. I really appreciate having the opportunity to listen to my classmates' ideas and opinions and to share different points of view. I also think that changing the dynamic of the class (from whole-class to pair work/group work) is also very positive. It helps me be more engaged in the lesson and it resembles what we would do in face-to-face lessons. I'd rate this lesson with a 5.
I think planning everything very carefully and with lots of detail helps with classroom management even if you have to adapt in the moment. Because it is easier to manage time if you know beforehand what and how you and the students will carry out different tasks. Being aware of the school resources is also very helpful. I’d rate the lesson with a 4. It was engaging and I like having time to discuss things with classmates in breakout rooms. I don’t know if virtual learning is what I like the most but that is for all courses.
Reflections on last class How did you like preparing the video on instructions on Flipgrid? Did you find planning the sequence in pairs or small groups useful? Why/not?
